East crashes into West

I just made a pretty crazy commitment to write an action scene involving a Harley Davidson riding through a 16th century Japanese castle. I can totally picture it and it's awesome - I just need to fit into my feature film script somehow, someway. Hey, money talks and bullshit walks!

Inching forward

OK I think I almost have the right explosive 1st act plotted for my current script. Was hitting a wall for almost 2 weeks - that's not good! Eventually I'll have to worry about getting the right actors to make cameo appearances in these scenes... but that's way later!

Behind the image

Since I consider myself more a filmmaker over a cinematographer, I like reading up on the thought process behind the imagery (although I do enjoy the technical aspects as well). But on production everything is much more instinctual, so there isn't much time to ponder the mysteries of the universe or shoot the shit.

The Pretzel Plot

I have a decent feature script treatment that is very likely to sell but when I revisited the plot it felt too conventional for a film without a high budget. So today I came up with a way to make things interesting called the Pretzel Plot. If it works you'll hear more about, but if it doesn't this will be the last you hear of it. Of course it's making things 100 times more difficult to map the plot out, but I will take the difficulty as a rite of passage to a better script.

Set your calenders and clocks - it's DAYLIGHT SAVINGS time!

DAYLIGHT SAVINGS (Surrogate Valentine 2) will have its West Coast premiere at the San Francisco Asian American Film Festival. Many of my ISMP film students that worked on SAKI also worked on this film by Dave Boyle and staring Goh Nakamura. It's showing on the same day (different times) as SALAD DAYS (a film shot I co-DP'd). Tickets are available now for both films!

Moving on...

Delivered my script and now, I'm on to my next one. This one's on a little bit shorter deadline but I'm back into the genre I'm more comfortable with - Action-Drama! Time to switch my music playlists to something with killer riffs and hard hitting beats.

Script Rewrite - end is in sight!

I finally typed FADE TO BLACK on my script rewrite. 137 pages is much longer than I anticipated but now I have to go back and clean it up, trim it, then send it off so that I can move on to the next script. Fell a week behind schedule but it does feel good to be one script ahead!

Earning it

I just wrote the cheesiest, corniest scene ever between a guy and a girl in an airport. No, I'm not apologizing for it - I think I earned it in the 2nd Act. But I better sleep on it and see how it reads tomorrow.

Step by step, inch by inch

Damnit! This scene has taken me 3 days to write - that's just pitiful. Granted it's been a busy 3 days so all I can do is inch forward and keep pushing. I need to be done with this script so that I can move on to the next one - falling about a week behind.
